This committee encompasses a number of the projects and efforts that take place through Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Working to serve the needy and underprivileged in the church and throughout the community, this group strives to offer parishioners the chance to work as the hands and feet of Christ. Reflecting upon the profound tradition of Catholic social teaching and engaging in the current issues of our world, members are dedicated to a combination of education and action that will help the parish more vibrantly connect in real ways to the message of the Gospel.
Some of the projects led by the Social Justice Committee include:
Monthly Food Collections that gather needed items to stock the parish Food Pantry and are taken on a regular basis to help and feed those in need
Clothing Drives that are held at various times throughout the year and provide an opportunity for parishioners to make donations of seasonal clothing, which are then distributed to local agencies serving the needy of our town and community
An Easter Basket Collection for underprivileged children
An annual Giving Tree that is placed out in the church in the lead up to Christmas to bring gifts and useful items for community members in need
