And Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and favor before God and man.
- Luke 2: 52 -
The end of Chapter 2 in the Gospel According to Luke features the dramatic story of the young Jesus lost in the Temple, and in it's concluding line, readers are offered the words presented above. They are words that remind us how even Jesus Christ himself lived a life of self-reflection, learning, and growth.
As Christians, we're called to continue this tradition of education and formation by being involved in groups and activities that allow us to push the boundaries of our personal and spiritual knowledge and understanding. As the Second Letter of Peter so simply puts it, we're called to "grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ" so that we won't fall into ignorance and foolish things but, instead, will be strengthened by the grace and guidance of our Lord.
At Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, we have a number of educational and formative opporunities both for the youth and adult members of our parish. While it's certainly important to develop a strong foundation of faith in a youth Religious Education or Faith Formation program, our spiritual development should not end there. Through a variety of classes, studies, and presentations, we hope to provide parishioners will an array of ways to grow in their faith, knowledge, and love of God.
